Leave the epic bromance between Kirk/Spock in the old show.

That was never ever going to happen, and I'm sorry but fans that really believed that it would were deluding themselves. I'm not sure what the writers said to lead fans to believe that (and I myself was surprised and disappointed at the lack of McCoy in this last movie), but I thought the first movie made it crystal clear that the main focus of the movies was always going to be the development of that "epic" friendship. That was the main reason for bringing old Spock in.
