I'll stop. I get it - I'm sorry for bringing it up. I should have just left it alone.

That's alright, we all do stupid and petty things sometimes. Mostly you should probably remember that being overly bitter about Internet arguments with random strangers may be bad for your own emotional health, so that's something you'd want to avoid.

See, it's sad but…I didn't even feel bitter about it.

I was excited! Excited to finally be able to talk about it (because I got into the fandom so late). Excited to be able to write paragraphs and paragraphs and pull evidence and hear about how other people looked at scenes. To have a chance to really pick apart and discuss and interpret.

I mean, hell, I wasn't even all that upset by what they called me (I've been called flat out retarded and brain damaged for some of my opinions on Star Wars lol) but it seemed, after a while, with the way they were responding, that they felt like what I was doing wasn't acceptable or wasn't really welcome on FS.

And, I'll admit, the thought that that could be the case kind of bummed me out because it seems like platforms for in-depth discussions (or "spreg"-ing as someone above called it) are a dying breed. And that's always where I've felt most comfortable.

But…I see what you mean about this thread. It was very much a "LOOK AT ME, HERE'S MY PITY PARTY, WOE IS ME" type thing, huh? I guess I should just learn to quit while I'm ahead.

If you want to talk at length about your opinions on Star Wars, you can always start a Star Wars thread in GC.

Oh Star Wars isn't a problem (I talk about it on TFN all the time). It's more Trek. It seems like most of the community's on Tumblr (besides some of the fanboys that I discuss more technical stuff with on trekbbs). And Tumblr doesn't exactly foster discussion.

Start a Trek thread then. If it's your thread that you started about something you want to talk about, then it's nobody's business telling you to get out of it, right.

Errr..just a quick question: what's GC stand for? Is it "general comments"? Do you mean page 2 here?

That's a good suggestion. The only thing I wish was that it was a bit more…permanent, I guess. Because the second page comments change day in and day out.

Whereas with forums, you can have the same thread go on for MONTHS and have hundreds of people participate.

Thanks for the suggestion, though. It's better than anything I came up with, certainly.

You could make one every day, nobody is stopping you. Trek pt 1 Trek pt 2 whatever.

Yo OP I don't know if you're still reading this but if you want an active community to chat about Trek stuff with a more permanent feel to it than FS things that is actually also all about Trek, I'd strongly suggest checking out the subreddit for it at http://www.reddit.com/r/startrek - it's pretty easy to sign up / make an account and talk about stuff there, and discussion is very encouraged.

IDK, I've had some very interesting and long discussions here. I guess it all depends on the topic - some parts of fandom are less welcoming when it comes to epic discussion threads; others are more welcoming. It's not a general f!s issue.

And then good long discussions are actually a pretty rare thing in themselves. You need to find really intelligent and mature people to be able to have conversations like this.

that's probably why people jumped at you, yes. You may not be actually bitter, but you did sound like you were. You don't look like a troll to me, so I'm assuming you just handled the situation awkwardly. Which is, well, a thing that happens. I'm glad you aren't stressed out about it, at least.

F!s is about sharing fandom related secrets but Op didn't like the secret saying something negative about their ship, so they started wanking about the ship THEY don't like all over the thread and tried to convince OP and anyone commenting that they should dislike the other ship instead, and not theirs that is superior. It's fine but I did see other shippers here getting mocked here for much less and this is not what happened to this spirk person.
If you DO have petty shipper wars in secrets that weren't about that, then don't complain when people notice you might be wanking just a little bit there.

No one insulted them, no one shared their opinion more than them. But they now they want us to tell them they were right and not immature.
They are asking us to defend them in the thread and seek validation. Plain and simile.
