If it's not fun for you, if you feel like you need more attention and aren't getting it and that makes it not worth it to you...well find out what works for you. If writing for comments works, then go for it. For some people, it does. For others, it doesn't.

I don't agree it's a bad thing to do. But you need to focus on what works for you in fandom and why. And ultimately if you wait too long to update fics you will lose readers, usually. So that can backfire.

I found I got more comments when I posted fairly regularly, on a schedule, and people knew I was going to be faithful about it. Something to consider if comments are very important to you!
