you are not paying these writers anything for their work. they are volunteering their own time and energy. if they no longer want to do that because they don't feel like it's worth the effort any more, then they can stop whenever the hell they want. the fact that you perceive this as "needy" is hilarious to me. this entire comment suggests to me that you are exactly one of the entitled readers you mentioned.

And when, as a writer, you start thinking that you're owed praise, and you start using your work as a way to get people to give you praise, then yes, you are absolutely being manipulative, needy, and entitled.
