I've never really understood this.

Don't get me wrong, I love comments and feedback as much as the next person so I'm not some "write for the sake of writing!" martyr, but if I'm writing a WIP then I update whenever the fic is ready, whether I've had two or two hundred comments in the meantime. It makes no sense to me to sit on it, especially when the best thing I've found for creating a buzz with your work is to post something regularly.

Can I also ask, if you're still around the thread OP, what you mean by "comment or two that I like." What does 'like' mean? Detailed critique, thorough feedback, or just something gushy and positive? Because I can fully understand people wanting to wait for some feedback on a fic decision or plot direction before moving ahead, but it sounds as though you've already done the work but you're just sitting on the update?

Something that makes me feel appreciated, gushy and positive. Doesn't matter how wordy it is.
Otherwise I just loose momentum and procrastinate.

This thread's been helpful, surprisingly. I think I'll just post the last chapters as it is.

AYRT

I can totally understand losing momentum; that's definitely hard.

Like I said though, FWIW I found that the best way of combating that is to post regularly. If people see you're going to be pretty reliable with updates then they're much more likely to leave you comments in the first place. If you stop posting for a while then it's doubly hard because not only have you lost momentum, so have your readers. So you get fewer comments, have less motivation, and the vicious cycle kicks on.

Good luck!

This is very good advice. Thanks from the not-OP.
