But I love this episode...

Seriously, it completely smashes the idea that Kirk is some horn dog idiot. Out of everyone on the ship, if I recall correctly, he is the LEAST affected by the women. And I really loved what he said at the end -- about how, man or woman, it's confidence that matters so much. We have to believe in ourselves first.

Is there sexism? Yeah, but I think there's some good points to this episode too.

+1 especially given the time in which it was made, at which point life on present day Earth was still aeons away from anything recognizable as an egalitarian society.

All very good points. If it's watched in the context of its time, it's not that insipid (as with a lot of other TOS episodes). And yes, a perfect example of how Kirk wasn't a horn-dog womanizer cough JJ Abrams

I'm pretty sure that if you examine the episodes where Kirk DOES sleep with someone, or nearly does, it's either what we'd consider rape or extenuating circumstances. There was the lady who had like, date-rape tears, he was amnesiac with Mirimanee (spelling?), that one lady who threatened to blow up the Enterprise and kill all the crew if he didn't sleep with her...

In one episode, doesn't he state that captaining the Enterprise takes up all his time and he has none for romance?

I love Kirk. He is/was so awesome.
