as someone from the US, i am fully aware of my country's shortcomings and i would never deny that we are in a massive debt and may never recover. also, no, i did not vote for the politicians responsible for these conditions and i strongly opposed the war. despite what you'd like to believe, US americans are not a single-minded entity.

in terms of space travel and research, many programs that can no longer be funded by the government are now being funded by private organizations and i think that's probably for the best right now.
