1. this achievement has been a long time in the making, it's been several years since rosetta was launched and minimal effort was exerted in maintaining the craft between then and now. times have changed a lot so there isn't much to prove from something that was designed, build and launched so long ago. philae was literally on its own once it departed from rosetta. the technology it used to succeed was from a time when other agencies were better funded.

2. european and american scientists/engineers collaborated on this project.
