My one surviving uncle died in May and I only heard about it from his kids 4 months later :-(

And like you said - OK, we weren't super-close, but I cared about him and I would have flown across the country to attend his funeral if someone had just told me.

Yeah, I totally would have visited & gotten a present for the lil rugrat, too. Maybe I'm just too sentimental...I dunno. Sorry about your uncle.
