That Martin Crieff fanart is adorable!

Other than that, I don't really understand this secret. Perhaps if I knew the OP's cultural background it might help more.

I'm pretty sure that's Charles Xavier.

I always saw Steve as more of a "Papa" type. But then I think that's because I got really used to him calling his own mother "Ma" in fan fiction -- I remember someone said that would be more likely given his Irish roots, though I'm not sure if that's true.

I always picture someone who is called "Daddy" would likely have called his own mother "Mom" or (more likely) "Mommy."

This is a cute secret. And now that I thought this through for all the characters, I even agree with you on all of them.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-13 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not going to lie to you.

This is incredibly adorable.

Or maybe I just like kidfic too much. But it's definitely one of those two.

The weird thing is that I see a sort of internal logic in this...

That being said, I'd always root for the kid who'd just say "screw this papa thing, I'm calling you Sherlock".

Cute ♥

It also makes me wonder if "two dads" fanfics have more variation. For some reason I like the idea of a kid calling them both dad, only with one of them getting an inflected daaaad for being the one they always plead at.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Who is the couple in the upper left? The art is cute.

Do children with same-sex parents "assign" their parents specific versions of mom/dad? I see it a lot in fic, but the only person IRL I know with same-sex parents was around ten when her mom got together with her partner, so it's just "mom" and "[partner's name]".

I use different terms depending on context, so using a fixed one for each parents looks weird to me when I see it in fic.

Haha, aww, this is adorable.

Full disclosure: to me, John and Sherlock would be reversed. Mostly because I think Papa John sounds cute as hell. And is doubly funny to me due to the U.S. pizza chain.

No "Dad"? That's what most IRL people I've known call their father. Or is that insufficiently cute?

I always find 'papa' really weird. It just sounds odd. Dad/Tad in Torchwood fandom was quite cute, but hard to differentiate irl.

Why are you limited to those two?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I call my mother Moe and my father Foe. I have a friend who calls their parents Popsicle and Mamaroon. I have another friend who calls their parents by their first names and always has. Not everyone uses the normal dad/mom notations.

How about Father or Papi or Da or Pop?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 04:45 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, I have seen Daddy and Papa in kidfic pretty often, but I always wonder why. Because in order for the kids to use them, the parents have refer to each other by them and I’m a little puzzled by Papa, since most of the characters refer to their fathers by Dad, I'm a little surprised Papa would be the other name so often.

Of course, if the kids get to decide, it could be literally anything – Dee or DeeDee, Dad [character name], like Dad John or amalgamation of Dad + [character name], like Dadean or Dadon, or just some random nickname.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
disgusting

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 06:52 am (UTC)(link)
This is cute and makes me want to do it for all my pairs, even if I don't write kidfic, which I totally should for all of them.

Okay, a non-native speaker here - what the hell is the difference...? And what are your personal connotations with each word that it's so specific for you?
