Who is the couple in the upper left? The art is cute.

Do children with same-sex parents "assign" their parents specific versions of mom/dad? I see it a lot in fic, but the only person IRL I know with same-sex parents was around ten when her mom got together with her partner, so it's just "mom" and "[partner's name]".

I use different terms depending on context, so using a fixed one for each parents looks weird to me when I see it in fic.

The most common one among people I'm personally familiar with is Mother [firstname] unless the child had 'mom' and 'dad' established before their parent came out, in which case it would be '[Parent] and [Parent's spouse]'. (I only know lesbians in this situation, but I suspect the same would hold for gay men.)

I think it's Steve/Bucky from the MCU

Ha, I thought MCU, but mistook the metal arm for a striped sweat shirt! :D

Oh, thank you! I mistook Bucky's arm for a striped sweat shirt and couldn't figure out who would have that kind of hairstyle in the MCU (I did think the guy looked a bit like Steve). Thank you for finding the picture!

Same as above, I mostly have friends whose mums came out after having them. The only couple who had kids after getting together is just 'mum' and 'mum'. Their child is too young to care which one comes xD .

It's kind of interesting that we all only seem to have lesbian parents as reference. And that most of them came out after having kids.

Well, I bet it's because of mothers' getting custody in the legal system. And straight couples are still a go-to for adoption. The mothers I've mentioned who had a kid after coming together had been a shock for my poor country (one of them is trans, both lesbians - got a news article of course). People come out when "settled down" because well, they know themselves better, slow down a bit, so on...

That is funny :) Cute
!

I didn't realise the first was Steve/Bucky because I've tumblr saviored it so extensively that I almost managed to make myself forget it's a thing at all.

You a Stony fangirl or something?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-14 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
My wife and I were going to be Mommy Jane and Mommy Sarah (not our real names) but our son called us Mommy and Mom and that's what stuck, and our daughter then just followed her older brother. But now that our son is 11 he's started calling us both Mother for some reason.

The only couple I know with kids (lesbian) do in fact have assigned names - Mommy and Momma.
