Is it just me, or is uncritical positivity kind of just as stupid as uncritical negativity

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Not just you.

Yeah starting with a statement like this...
'Rape is love trope' is nothing but the literary application...

I will defend sexual fantasy to the ends of the earth but tropes happens in a context, and its' use is informed by attitudes towards sex and consent. Complicated things!

Rape is not romance.

I understand rape fantasies are normal and many folks have them, and I don't judge those that do.

But personally, it makes me vomit.

>Rape is not romance

Sex is. I don't care for love without sex, that's just a friendship. And when it comes to sex my fantasy is to be desired by a selfish and possessive lover willing to transgress to seize and love me, just like the secret describes.

na

I don't care for love without sex, that's just a friendship

that's an awfully simplistic way to look at it. I mean, whatever floats your boat and all, but a lot of people don't associate romantic love with sex

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
And those lots of people can fuck off really.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
why though?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
Because I want to read and write something that pleases me, not you.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:50 am (UTC)(link)
Wait--their not-associating love with sex...somehow interferes with your ability to read and write something that pleases you? Huh?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:52 am (UTC)(link)
Are you being deliberately obtuse? I simply said I don't give a shit about them.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
DA
No, you said they could "fuck off". There's a difference.

DA

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 09:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No, you said they can fuck off, which means you're angry with them... for some reason. Fair enough if that's not what you mean, but it's not what you said.

Doubleposting?

I can see why anon would be angry tho, with all the people bitching at authors 'Why did you make rape romantic??? I hate it! Make your characters hate it too, I don't care if you like it!!!' It's stressful to have people ragging on you all the time.

And then bitch when it's called pleasurable and justified. Well duh, that's what it meant to be. A rape that's pleasurable and wanted.

Re: DA

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Which makes it not rape.
By definition no one can want to be raped.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 03:18 pm (UTC)(link)
If they fuck themselves, does that make it romance?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Selfcest is a thing, yanno.

In your fantasy life sex may = romance, but you don't think unromantic sex is a thing?? in a thread about rape fantasies?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 07:36 am (UTC)(link)
copypasting from a post below

"After our discussion of the alley encounter, we talked about erotic — as opposed to aversive — fantasies of rape. According to an analysis of relevant studies published last year in The Journal of Sex Research, an analysis that defines rape as involving “the use of physical force, threat of force, or incapacitation through, for example, sleep or intoxication, to coerce a woman into sexual activity against her will,” between one-third and more than one-half of women have entertained such fantasies, often during intercourse, with at least 1 in 10 women fantasizing about sexual assault at least once per month in a pleasurable way.

The appeal is, above all, paradoxical, Meana pointed out: rape means having no control, while fantasy is a domain manipulated by the self. She stressed the vast difference between the pleasures of the imagined and the terrors of the real. “I hate the term ‘rape fantasies,’ ” she went on. “They’re really fantasies of submission.” She spoke about the thrill of being wanted so much that the aggressor is willing to overpower, to take. “But ‘aggression,’ ‘dominance,’ I have to find better words. ‘Submission’ isn’t even a good word” — it didn’t reflect the woman’s imagining of an ultimately willing surrender."

why the fuck should someone who's imagining hella good sex not see it as romantic?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, and you can't rape the willing.

That's why it's a fantasy.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Definitely not just you. A citation doesn't mean it's not a shoddily constructed argument.
