the dysphoria discussion re: transsexualism/"truscum".

Yeah, my problem with "truscum" is that they don't find nonbinary genders legitimate and they are against people who don't want to transition for whatever reason. On the other hand, I DO think you need some kind of "dysphoria" with your gender assigned at birth whether it be physical and/or mental in order to be trans. I keep seeing people on tumblr say you don't need dysphoria to be trans which is nonsensical to me bc wouldn't you just be cis if you were comfortable with your assigned gender?

Yeah, I see an awful lot of "you can choose to be trans!" lately, which...absolutely rubs me the wrong way. But on the same note, I don't like the idea that there's no grey area between two extremes.

yeah, I can buy "gender is bullshit, so I put ? as my gender" without dysphoria as being "beyond" gender and therefore agender and trans... but then you can just as well be cis while acknowledging that they're empty norms, instead of "choosing" to be trans.
Or somebody can have temporary dysphoria without being trans.

if these "trans without having dysphoria" labels were more of a "self-aware" performance of fucking with gendernorms it would make more sense to me, but many will earnestly identify with just another gender label. But I don't want to be that asshole who tells people what they can or can't identify with.

This may help and may simply confuse you further, but I'm agender and, while I don't experience physical dysphoria relating to that (i.e. I would be fine with whatever genitals but have still got the usual "well I'd like my nose to be straighter and should exercise more" song and dance, though it probably helps that I have a stereotypically androgynous build), I do experience social dysphoria (e.g. it's disorienting to hear people gender me one way or the other), especially in the winter months when my hair gets long. Because, of course, length of hair determines gender, don'tcha know. :|

The "trans without dsyphoria" doesn't make a great deal of sense, because if you don't have any dysphoria, then... you're fine with the gender and sex you were assigned at birth and that makes you cis because words mean things. But dysphoria isn't just and doesn't have to be physical, if that makes sense.

No, that makes sense to me. Thanks for explaining!

I deleted my original comment for being unfair.

The idea seems to be "Let's yell at people who think they're trans!" But I never claim to be trans. I'm not male, and that's all I'm ever going to say on the subject. I will never stop saying that, no matter how often I get yelled at, and I don't see how I'm causing any harm to trans people when I'm not even saying I'm a trans person.
