Does anyone know how common is rape fantasy (as in getting raped, not committing rape) among dudes? I've never heard one way or the other on it and it feels unfair to make assumptions about how rape fantasies are the product of women feeling ashamed of their sexuality when we don't have a point of comparison.

Almost exactly the same percentage, actually. I will try to dig up the stats, but if I recall them correctly, something like 31% of women and 28% of men fantasize about being 'forced' into sex.

I was wrong! It's even closer than that, and men edge women out slightly. 28.9% of women fantasize about being forced to have sex, and 30.7% of men do.

So yeah, roughly a third of both genders. Which seems about right from percentage the "horny slut just can't help herself and forces man to fuck her" titles I've translated. It would be interesting to see just how much of romance novels/female erotica has that trope, too, because people act like all of it is that, but in a ton of it that I've seen the guy is a perfect gentleman.

30.7% fantasize about being forced to have sex, or to force sex onto someone? Because I assume you're trying to say the latter, but that's not what that sentence says.

Er, what? No, I'm trying to say the former. Obviously. I'm talking abotu the same fantasy.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 01:31 am (UTC)(link)
Based on their earlier post, yes, they phrased the sentence correctly.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Why did you assume she's trying to say the latter?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
Why the fuck do you "assume" the latter when the ayrt is clearly saying the former? *sideeyes*

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
ayrt = ariakas you replied to?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-15 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! Are you accessing behind the paywall or something, because I can't seem to find the statistics?

If you have a university account you can log in, but this is the graph with the data if you don't:

This is fascinating. Could we get a source? Like, what's the name of this study? Where it was conducted? I would like to read up.

Christian C. Joyal, Amélie Cossette, Vanessa Lapierre (Department of Psychology, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières): "What Exactly Is an Unusual Sexual Fantasy?" The Journal of Sexual Medicine, published Oct 30, 2014.

There's a link in my previous comment but the full study is behind a paywall so you'll need to be associated with a college or library.

This is fascinating and fantastic. I always hear the women's statistic thrown around, and had absolutely no idea it was basically the same for men. Thanks so much for the link!
