Anything that claims to be a universal understanding of how women operate sexually is bogus. It does not represent me and I know there are other women who feel the same way. Stop spreading shit like this, this is the stuff that feed into "but that's what women really want!!!1" rape apology. ugh.

Nowhere does that article claim to be have universal understanding of women though. It speaks in broad terms because the subject is very common, and you really cannot deny this, but it doesn't claim to be speaking for every single woman out there.

Doesn't claim outright, but it sure implies. And it even says lower on that only a certain percent of women have those fantasies, so why this author paints women with such a broad brush is beyond me.

The phrase "women want" followed by a depiction of ravishment/rape/dubcon/whathaveyou sounds eerily similar to the sentiment among many rape apologists IRL.

Given how women are shamed for this fantasy it's impossible to make an accurate number, but Twilight and 50 shades of grey sell like hotcakes, so making a broad generalization with this data makes sense.

The hell? No it doesn't. It's NOT okay to make a broad generalization about an ENTIRE GENDER, especially when it leads to demonstrable HARM (i.e. rape apologists using it as an excuse)! Not to mention that we already have enough shit about "REAL women want this" "REAL men want this" and it's OKAY to have different sexual desires and want different dynamics. These gendered expectations are being set up and people apply that to women (such as myself) without asking first if that's the case for us. (True for many such expectations, not just this one.)

It being true for many women doesn't make it true for all. Hell, it's not even true for MOST if you look at any of the data given on this thread. It's just true for enough to make 50SoG a bestseller - and it doesn't have to be bought by all or most women for it to be a bestseller.

(Twilight doesn't even count because that really, really isn't what it's about. It's about a relationship, not sex. Edward did mention he wasn't sure if he'd be able to control himself while having sex with Bella but it was far from the main theme of the book.)

I'm not sure if you're projecting, or just not really reading what I'm saying. I'm not upset that many women like ravishment as a trope or irl. I'm upset that that idea is being applied, by some people, to ALL women, and that it's being painted as some kind of universal female sexuality. And I'm upset that it has a real impact on real people who commit real rape, because it's handled so poorly, and without much cultural context of sexual fantasy being a thing.

People are different and want different things. There is no single conclusive "female sexuality" or "female desire".
