I'm personally bitter that Frozen, a year old now, is getting merchandised and promoted more heavily than Big Hero 6, which just came out. It's probably going to suffer the same merchandise fate that Wreck-It Ralph did and not get a second wave (which made me angry at Brave for the same reason). The princess-oriented properties get all the spotlight, the for-everyone ones get relegated to a small corner and quickly forgotten. That's unfair to the people who worked on those movies and really gets me riled up.

Maybe it'll fare better since it's not competing with a princess movie for the Oscar.

Exactly.

/still bitter most of the Vanellope merch is either terrifying or 50$ +

This is why representation in the Princess line matters - because Disney doesn't think the rest of their canon is worth shit to advertise or promote besides Cars.

WHAT? If Baymax isn't a marketable character, what the hell is? If this winds up not getting a sequel because it didn't sell enough merchandise, and it didn't sell enough merchandise because nobody tried to promote that merchandise . . .

Agh, I'm probably worrying over nothing. Still, I feel like this should be an easily merchandised franchise.

I'm as confused as you are about Baymax's obvious marketability versus available merchandise. There are currently more versions of Olaf plush toys than there are Baymax, armored Baymax, and Fredzilla combined. Particularly alarming to me is the absence of an inflatable Baymax in some form outside of some balloons at Disney Parks. A perfect opportunity to get creative, and all we get are a couple plush and a few phoned-in action figures.

Whether it gets a sequel is likely unrelated to merch, as I understand WIR is getting one despite, as mentioned previously, it never got a second merch wave (with the sole exception being the Funko POPs that did eventually see a wider release many months later).

Disney have really dropped the ball on merch lately, what with no dancing Groots until GotG had been out for months.

My local Disney store didn't even have a front display for it. It was shoved to the side of the store, practically out of sight. Unbelievable.

I thought BH6 might get treated better than WIR because of a) the success of Frozen and b) the Marvel connection and how huge MCU is. But frankly? I'm seeing less for it than there was for WIR.

And why the hell is there not a large Baymax plush.

Most BH6 merch at Disneyland (esp. Baymax themed stuff) is sold out until the new year--they had the issue where they'd run out, open up more boxes they had in storage to replenish supplies, rinse & repeat.
