Crytsal is following the manga much more closely, and to be honest the manga is very fast paced, and hardly anyone but Usagi gets any development in it at all. The Senshi/Shitennou thing was vaguely hinted at in the manga, I think Naoko Takeuchi said it was something she'd wanted to go more in depth with in the manga, but never got a chance too.

That's disappointing. I hope the anime takes time to actually do what she didn't get around to doing, though I wonder, since the characters and their relationships so far have been a bit bland in comparison to the first anime. I don't want their romances to be more of the same, taking up space that would be better served giving the girls more personality.

I hope so too, but it's only 26 episodes and it is going to cover the Black Moon arch too.

The first anime was definitely the best when it came to character development.

Wait, what? That seems absurdly short, especially trying to work the Black Moon arc in there, which didn't show up until 46 episodes into the first anime. Anime had more episodic filler, though, so. I dunno, just surprised.

They might just make it, if only because there is zero filler and everything is going fast.

At episode 10 for Crystal, the senshi have already visited the moon, spoken with Queen Serenity and learned about their past. The moon visit in the original anime didn't happen until... something like episode 43 or 44.

The Black Moon Clan arc has been confirmed for starting in January.

It is, especially compared to the fisrt anime.
The first arch of the manga is 12 or 13 acts long(it's been a bit since I read the manga so I can't remember exactly) each episode of Crystal has covered one act of the manga so far.

Sorry about that. Misfired.

No big. I've done that too.
