For science. Yes.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)Well, not on the part about the specific series you're talking about, but about preferring the inexperienced male dynamic. Matter of fact, that's more or less the only reason I read Darcy/Steve fic in Avengers fandom - I don't think the pairing makes sense on its own merits but the characters are likable enough and it's a little treasure trove for that dynamic and it's great.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)As for the dynamic, the only fandom that I know of off the top of my head might be the Kaylee/Simon pairing in Firefly. Shipboard earthy mechanic and the uptight prissy doctor. One of the more popular, actually canon pairings!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)Beauty and the geek trope in fantasyland, perhaps? Perhaps it's much more like my RL experience as a science-y girl surrounded by male engineers. The few women in that environment can sometimes be much more experienced than the boys, and when sex happens they have to guide them. Terrible cliche, but true. It's also my norm for how these things are supposed to happen, so much that the opposite has to be really well written for me to believe it.
So this Kushiel book has that kind of pairing? Count me interested.

I am also totally with you when it comes to this dynamic being more interesting than experienced man/inexperienced woman (which isn't bad, per ce, just overdone).
I find it a lot in Dragon Age Origins fic for fic with Alistair, though not every female character he is paired with (mainly the Female Warden) is necessarily going to be more experienced (the joy of building your own character).
Like a vir-hir-hir-hir-giiinn!
