I'm sure some of the lovely F!S people can give recs, right? For science?

I, too, shall camp out in this thread in hopes of recs.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm sure there's some with Steve Rogers and Peggy or Natasha out there.

I shall join this camp.

For science. Yes.

IA super hard.

Well, not on the part about the specific series you're talking about, but about preferring the inexperienced male dynamic. Matter of fact, that's more or less the only reason I read Darcy/Steve fic in Avengers fandom - I don't think the pairing makes sense on its own merits but the characters are likable enough and it's a little treasure trove for that dynamic and it's great.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, Kushiel.. lovely background image.

As for the dynamic, the only fandom that I know of off the top of my head might be the Kaylee/Simon pairing in Firefly. Shipboard earthy mechanic and the uptight prissy doctor. One of the more popular, actually canon pairings!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:20 pm (UTC)(link)
If you want sex scenes between a virgin man and an experienced woman, you may enjoy Diana Gabaldon's Outlander.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:48 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not sure if those play out the same way, though. Jamie might be a virgin, technically, but that imbalance in sexual experience barely registers for long.

Phedre and Josceline ♥

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know whether you'd want to wade into the fandom, OP, but the Meg/Castiel pairing from Supernatural might meet your criteria.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! A Kushiel's trilogy secret! I love me some Phedre and Joscelin! My OTP for life!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Sooo...you like the reverse trope, and so hate the other trope? What?

I agree with you. This is how I much prefer it as well.

Beauty and the geek trope in fantasyland, perhaps? Perhaps it's much more like my RL experience as a science-y girl surrounded by male engineers. The few women in that environment can sometimes be much more experienced than the boys, and when sex happens they have to guide them. Terrible cliche, but true. It's also my norm for how these things are supposed to happen, so much that the opposite has to be really well written for me to believe it.

So this Kushiel book has that kind of pairing? Count me interested.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure Virgin!Steve is a tag on AO3 for Steve Rogers.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 11:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool, I'm right in the middle of re-reading this series.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, people rag on romance and het tropes all the time.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Sherlock fandom has some lovely Irene/Sherlock fics with this dynamic.

Just wanted to say I love, love, love that series!

You like what you like.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
You might be able to find some of that in Stiles/Lydia (Teen Wolf).

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
This happens in canon in A Home at the End of the World.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the same, but possibly because of the different tropes I tend to see applied to each.

Oh no, I could reply to this secret for hours, but not with anything truly relevant. I'm reading Kushiel's Legacy at the moment (just coming toward the mid-point of the third book of the second trilogy I DON'T KNOW WHY I'M CAREFULLY AVOIDING NAMING NAMES IT'S NOT LIKE ANYONE HERE WOULD EVEN CARE ABOUT VAGUE SPOILERS) and it's just been a wonderful reading experience. And yes, I too love Phedre and Joscelin. I was very prepared not to, but gosh I just love everything between them.

SO YES GO YOU SECRET MAKER, YOU DO THE THING

Yay, Kushiel's Legacy!

I am also totally with you when it comes to this dynamic being more interesting than experienced man/inexperienced woman (which isn't bad, per ce, just overdone).

I find it a lot in Dragon Age Origins fic for fic with Alistair, though not every female character he is paired with (mainly the Female Warden) is necessarily going to be more experienced (the joy of building your own character).

Like a vir-hir-hir-hir-giiinn!

err, I mean, a khushiel secret! WHEE!!
