I agree with you. This is how I much prefer it as well.

Beauty and the geek trope in fantasyland, perhaps? Perhaps it's much more like my RL experience as a science-y girl surrounded by male engineers. The few women in that environment can sometimes be much more experienced than the boys, and when sex happens they have to guide them. Terrible cliche, but true. It's also my norm for how these things are supposed to happen, so much that the opposite has to be really well written for me to believe it.

So this Kushiel book has that kind of pairing? Count me interested.
