The thing is that many (if not most) people who have heard of Slenderman don't know that he was created on a forum. It is a convincing monster that ticks off a lot of common scary things (blank face, unnatural limbs, harmful to children, unrelentingly chases you, etc).

And 2009 is a long time ago in the world of the internet. Hell, a town was terrified because of a creepypasta on reddit recently. And those were people who were reading a story as it was written.

Which creepypasta are you referring to?

Really? I've never met anyone who didn't think of Slenderman as 'another internet thing.'

But I think they thing that makes it creepy is whether or not you know the exact origins. Like an urban legend.

I dunno, I think that Nevada-tan is creepy, and I've read up on her story...

Ok, sorry if this is off-topic, but am I the only one who feels like time is actually faster on the internet? Like, I'll remember some silly meme or fandom things from forever ago, and think "It's really that old? It still feels recent to me."

My friend just found out about Rebecca Black's Friday...2 days ago.

Yesterday I met someone who'd only just heard about Naked News.

Which was a big deal when it was first created...in 2000. (Frankly, I was shocked to find out it was still around.)
