Menstrual Cups

(Anonymous) 2014-11-16 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone here used them? I was thinking of trying them but I'm a little nervous. What brands do you like best?

I own two Fleurcups, one small, one big, and I love them. They fit very well, do their part nicely, and are cheap--if you live in Europe, at least. Elsewhere in the world, postage may be too expensive to keep the purchase cheap, however.

I have, and all I can say is that they are surprisingly comfortable once you learn how to use them right, but if you don't even getting them in can be a hassle. The instruction booklet for a few brands also gives you the worst way to do it, you should probably fold it like this to make it as easy as possible.

And maybe use lube...

I use the disposable kind (Instead Softcups), which are a great introduction if you want to try cups but not invest fully in a reusable one. I want one, but I'm still researching all the different kinds out there!

I've had one from Meluna for about a year or so now, and I'm really pleased with it. I can't feel it at all when it's in and it's really made my periods a lot easier.

Don't do that! Menstrual cups are a gross tool for submitting women into accepting penetration. No self respecting woman should ever put her hands into her vagina, especially during her periods. Please don't give in that propaganda. Reconsider. Stay free!

Shut the absolute fuck up, freebleeding was a hoax perpetrated by 4chan and no one ever fucking bought it. Asshole.

na

I remember the hoax that you're referring to but the general concept of "freebleeding" has long predated 4chan

Yeah, for approximately millions of years, if I'm not mistaken. The only thing these crunchy types don't take into consideration is, even as few as two generations ago, women ovulated (and consequently bled out the resultant uterine lining) far less than women do today; since women of even two generations ago were, on average, pregnant for a considerable number of their fertile years.

I'll just be over here with my hand in my vagina. Feels pretty awesome.

Pretty much this.

Penetration does not a patriarchy make

(Anonymous) 2014-11-17 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
What about those self-respecting women who very much enjoy hands and vaginas, especially when they meet? A good hand meeting a good vagina? Mmm...

Knowing how to touch yourself -- for pleasure or clean-up -- I think is very important for any person, regardless of gender, persuasion, or where they're on their body they're touching.

And while there are anti-penetration lesbians out there, it does not at all mean it's the wrong thing to do for another person. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to. Gimme that purple strap-on and a willing partner any day, and we can do all kinds of fun things.

How do you feel about tampons? Are they any better? They're much more uncomfortable than a menstrual cup, hard as balls to put in in the first place, more likely to cause allergic reactions due to unknown materials, and create more waste than a reusable cup. I'll take surgical-grade-material-safe over a wad of dry cotton shoved up my vaginal canal anyday.

(Gods, let's that be a troll!)
But don't you know? the only right way to do it is clitoral stimulation. Any penetration is a false sense of feeling good because it's taking the patriarchy in. Or something.

I use a DivaCup, and it's basically changed my life. There's a bit of a learning curve on figuring out how best to get in inside (the guides they pack in with it are helpful though!), but once you do, you can't feel a thing and it stays put. Plus, 12 hours >>> 8, and medical grade silicone >>>> cotton wad.

TMI, but honestly, the best thing about it for me is the total nullification of odor issues. Since the blood gets held in the cup right after being released, it never hits air and starts to stink up the joint.

At first I read this as "menstrual cramps" and for a moment I was very confused.

The Instead throwaways. Love them. They're wonderful. They do take a little work and I'd suggest wearing a pad to make sure you're not leaking the first couple of days you wear them. But once you get the hang of putting them in, they're pretty much leakproof, and comfortable.
