And I'm curious as to why they'd feel the need to point out how pointless they find it in a fandom-related community if they're not tacitly (or not so tacitly since they acknowlegde it sounds stuck-up) saying other people doing it bothers them.

It'd be like me going into a fantasy-football forum and saying "This doesn't appeal to me at all, I much rather just watch the real game and leave it at that."

OP seems like the type to hang out in fandom communities and complain about most of the activity by leaving comments in those communities.

Really? That just seems a tad,"looking for insult".

This is also a "confessions" community, FFS. They're submitting a confession about how they aren't as interested and find it pointless to ship and theorize about canon stuff. How is this less valid than the thousands of "I ship it but I feel guilty" or "I judge fans of that" or other stuff.

Honestly I don't even agree with the OP's feelings. But I don't see the point in getting mad at them for confessing them. What's the point. Normally all this secret would have got out of me is a "Oh. Okay. Hope you enjoy that , OP".

Yes. It's a confessions community. But, see, it's not just a place to share confessions, it's also a place to comment on confessions. And it would be a pretty fucking pointless and boring place if all anyone said in regards to the secrets here was to say "oh okay, that's nice."

Shipping secrets are boring and "I judge..." secrets are dumb. The difference is that OP is setting themselves against fandom activity. The wording also makes it seem like they're against interpretation, which has been part of the history and consumption of all forms of art. There's also more to many artistic mediums than 'the original author and their vision,' so at best OP is boring, at worst they're a philistine.

Hmm well I suppose that's a point.

But then again, I guess it's just...why does it matter? Will getting mad at them , mock them and make assumptions about what they do in other comms really do anything to change their mind?

Like I know the whole spiel of "I have a right to disagree" and all but, really what difference will all this reaction make to OP?

Sure we probably won't convince them to change (and we certainly won't like this) but why not instead of angry offense we can approach OP explaining why we are so interested in this and what we get out of it?

Might result in more interesting conversation, than just reactionary wanking. and even if we don't change their mind, couldn't it be fun to have a huge discussion about why we ship, and come up with theories and do the fannish things we do, and what we get out of it?

I doubt either side would want to have that discussion. I know I don't like trying to defend my interests to people who are already judging me for them, and if someone doesn't like something, especially if they express that dislike in the way that OP has, they won't want to hear people talk about why they enjoy that thing.

What difference will any reaction make? And where the fuck are you for every single other secret where the majority of commenters disagree and voice that disagreement strongly? What is it about this one thing that's made you go "omg guys you shouldn't be expressing yourselves this way because it's a secrets site so blah blah blah?"

It clearly matters to OP if they went to the trouble of making their opinion known in a fandom community that they think personally that fandom is pointless.

I find that totally pointless and irrelevant. YMMV.

I thought the OP's sentiments were how a lot of people outside fandom think about it. I don't get why you would hang out in fannish spaces for more than a few curious "huhs" if that's how you felt--there are plenty of spaces outside fandom (or in writing comms) where you could express that and be solidly mainstream.
