I can't help it, I'm starting to find it really funny how Elsa's struggle is being seen by people as [insert mental illness/differing sexuality/etc.]-- not because people's struggles are funny, but because that really hammers home how completely generic her entire story really was. You really can apply anything to it. It's the same thing behind generic pop songs being written as non-specifically as possible so that tween girls can easily project themselves into it.

Funny how the whole empathy thing works. Where you can relate to someone going through an situation because you had relatable emotions going through a different situation. Funny how anxiety and fear doesn't only happen in one circumstance.

I know, isn't it awful? They should have been more specific and original with a complex, adult story that you have to really analyze to find the One True Meaning of. Genericness is always a sign of laziness. It's never there because specifics are irrelevant and/or the point is to be relatable to lots of different people.

Truly, things being accessible to young girls is terrible and should never happen.

Something can be a metaphor for more than one thing, without necessarily making it bad storytelling, IMO.

The message of Elsa's story is "if you force your child to hide who she is, bad stuff will happen." It can be seen as a pretty obvious metaphor for being a lesbian and being forced into the closet. It can also be seen as a metaphor for/depiction of what people with mental illness endure. That doesn't devalue the message AS SUCH - if anything, a story that a great variety of people can relate to is a good story, esp. if you're going for mass appeal like Disney are.
