Re: Unpopular opinions

I am becoming increasingly annoyed by tumblr and fandom in general.

I don't know why, but it's really starting to grate on my nerves lately. Just the whole... tumblr thing, especially the approach to social justice. Like, goddamnit people, not everything is US-centric. And not everything is an equally big deal. You do not need to be yelling about stuff all the time. I want to get AWAY from that shit, not dwell on it all the time!

It doesn't help that my sibling has been really vocally tumblr-ing lately. The other day they were going on about Kim Kardashian's butt and how it was such an outrage. There are so many feminist issues that are more pressing, but tumblr chooses to focus specifically on that?

And holy shit, the labels. Labels everywhere! The asexual community on tumblr is particularly bad with this. Everyone's gotta have an MBTI type. Yesterday I saw "holoself" pronouns. Are you fucking kidding me? And do not even get me started on otherkin. Apparently voidkin and spacekin are a thing now.

The way people just overreact to all this shit as if it's important as what's going on in Ferguson, for example, just angers me beyond belief. It's so exhausting. Maybe this is a symptom of getting older, but I have ZERO FUCKS left to give. I'd much rather spend those fucks on stuff that actually matters in the real world.

You know there's nothing stopping you from taking a step back, right? Sometimes distancing yourself from stuff like that is the only reasonable thing to do.

+1. Tumblr-style SJ communities really represent a negligible number of RL people. The world as a whole is not influenced by Tumblr. If this disturbs you to the point of being "exhausting", you need to get away from it asap.

Yeah, I have been staying away for a while. And most of it keeps off my dash, anyway - I mostly just reblog pretty pictures and music.

It's just hard to avoid when the slightest comment will suddenly set my sibling off on a rant about the patriarchy. Hell, I probably agree with a lot of what they're saying - but if I got into a frothing rage every time someone did something bigoted and awful, I would be dead at thirty with a blood clot.

IDK, I guess my little sis is still young, and is new to all these ideas.

I think this is definitely a major part of it. Many of these people are just young and are going through their Communist phase or an analogue thereof.

Actually, I feel you, as it were. US-centric discussions can be incredibly annoying, and people getting constantly enraged over controversial matters just sound like someone who keeps shouting so loud they cannot hear anyone else speak. But you do need to take this less seriously, for your own sake.

I totally feel you on this. I've ended up deleting my tumblr (first time was with fandom friends, second was just a empty blog to follow artists and pleasant themed blogs with no sjw nonsense) twice because it's so damn difficult keep that shit out. It'd love to make fandom friends there, but finding people who aren't annoying or nuts is so difficult.

It's worse when someone you follow who you think is pretty chill suddenly starts clogging up your dash with posts about otherkin and "please refer to me as plant" and "this is just like trans rights!"

It's like they've suddenly been assimilated by the borg and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Hee hee, please refer to me as plant! "You are Groot."

I just focus on the fandom related tags. I find that helps. It's only when I follow certain blogs that the SJ stuff comes up, really. But maybe this is more prevalent in some fandoms than in others? I wouldn't know, I mostly follow anime stuff.
