27. I don't understand why so many people post secrets here implying that it's impossible to balance having a "cool person wild real life" *eyeroll* with having a "fandom life". So, like: last night I went out on the town and drank lots of liquor and wore a sexy shirt and danced until my legs wanted to fall off and then today thanks to the magic of winter break, I relaxed, played FFXII and read some fanfic. I-it's not really that difficult to, y'know, have multiple hobbies. :P

Not that I want to criticize either way of life, I'm just curious.

I used to binge drink on the streets in the middle of the night, watch my friends trip out on drugs, and sleep in parks. And then the next day I would go home and play JRPGs and watch cartoons.

BUT YOU ALREADY KNEW THAT.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure they were doing the same thing. One of the junkie punks I used to hang around with was a big fan of Chrono Trigger, Invader Zim, and Serial Experiments Lain.

I THINK IT'S JUST THAT SOME PEOPLE ARE AFRAID THAT THEIR COOL FRIENDS WOULD FIND OUT ABOUT THEIR OMG SEKRIT DOUBLE LIFE AS A CARTOON FAN!

OBVIOUSLY YOU WOULDN'T HAVE HAD THAT PROBLEM ANYWAYS.

Also, that friend of ours from High School who lost all that weight thanks to a healthy diet of CRACK AND DDR. And, uh, Utena. SEE, FANDOM AND DRUGS. BFF. OR SOMETHING.

I don't know, I rarely talked geek with them because our relationship was more about getting fucked up and doing stupid shit. I did get in an argument with a bouncer/drug dealer about the failure of Legend of Dragoon. And then there was that time I went to some guy's house way out of town for a party(lol my 15th birthday lol) and was disappointed because everyone was just smoking pot, AND I DEMAND ALCOHOL WHEN IT IS PROMISED. Did I tell you about his KINKY ASTRO BOY FANTASIES? I've probably told you about his kinky Astro Boy fantasies. He also had an Evangelion boxset and animu posters all over his walls(which he made me sign when I got there) and someone ripped the smoke alarm out of the ceiling because it kept going off. Because like. People were setting curtains on fire or something.

OH MY WAYWARD YOUTH, HOW I RELIVED YOU LAST WEEK.

For reals? I was wondering how he dropped to nothing so quickly. The last time I saw him in high school he was kind of heavy, and then a few months later I saw him at the mall and he was skinny as hell. Actually, I bet that's what happened to that guy I went to the Shambhala school with. Who is also a huge nerd. Once he showed me his FFT file with all of his characters maxed out.

Really though. :P That's why I said "cool person wild real life" with an eyeroll and a hint of sarcasm. I do like to go clubbing once in a while, but I am by no means a party person. o__O It's okay to like partying and hate nerdy things, and it's okay to love nerdy things and hate partying, I just really don't understand why so many people can't do BOTH.

I suppose I can see "falling out of fandom" after getting into another lifestyle (THEIR LOSS), but the OP said that she missed her fandom friends, so uh. At the end of the day, isn't fandom what you do when you get home, so if you want to do both there's not really anything stopping you from bringing up lj and chatting anime meta with your internet buddies when you're hung over. Like, seriously.

Haha, I'm the same way, honestly. Parties are all right once in a while, but for the most part, everyone compensates for so much that they just come off as pretentious and fake to me. Maybe that's aggravated by living in LA, though.

The thing about those cool-person wild real lives is that they aren't actually cool. You're surrounded by boring and stupid people, everything is loud, and you wake up feeling like shit. Also the smell of orange juice and vodka and bile takes like, THREE DAYS to wash out of hair.
