What are his stances on important issues?

If they weren't majority with the party lines, he'd identify as independent or centrist so does it really matter?

Of course it does. Just like social liberal != fiscal liberal.

Does he identify as a Republican, though? I've only seen one quote on this, a long time ago, and it was talking about how you don't go from a $2K-a-night room on the Strip to prison and come out of it a liberal. Not that he was expressly Republican.
