I can see why's you see it as an excuse to dress up (but mostly because of the black lip stick, which Wednesday didn't wear).

But for the "naturally pale" part? Yeah, through "natural" film make-up. If someone more tan would cosplay her, it would make sense to make herself paler with make-up.

I can get that "excuse to be goth without any actual consideration for the character" argument.

But Wednesday is also a little girl, and so many it's an older version variant of the character? I mean, people throw their own ideas into cosplay all the time, and who really cares. Besides OP.

Well, in the musical she's older. She also lost the braids, though.

Yes, that is a fair point - we wouldn't know what Wednesday would look like in canon at age 18 or so.

... but given her attitudes, I'd be quite surprised if she was into mascara and black lipstick a la Hot Topic.

To be fair, my attitudes as child were very different than my attitudes as a teen - but yeah, it does feel a bit OOC.

Why?

I've only seen the movies, but I don't really see anything to suggest that an older version of her would never wear dark, socially frowned upon makeup. Not saying she would or wouldn't, but I don't remember which attitudes you're referring to.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, given her attitude I can see her shunning the sheer commercial conformist nature of Hot Topic on principle.

Why? Her mother does makeup to the nines and looks fabulous. If she wanted to do makeup, she'd get tips from Morticia, wouldn't she?

Maybe she'd want to, maybe she wouldn't, but you can't say flat out that she never would.

She paints her nails. Why wouldn't she paint other things?

I'm hoping she'd go fairy-kei as a teenage rebellion

"but ... pastels!"

To be fair, that's not even unrealistic.
