Do you think people can only cosplay as Doctor Manhattan if they're naturally completely blue post-humans who exist outside of space time? Or people can only cosplay as Worf if they're fucking Klingons? And even if people just want to dress up as sexy Goths, why in God's name is that a problem?

I can see why's you see it as an excuse to dress up (but mostly because of the black lip stick, which Wednesday didn't wear).

But for the "naturally pale" part? Yeah, through "natural" film make-up. If someone more tan would cosplay her, it would make sense to make herself paler with make-up.

I feel like women who say they're cosplaying Pikachu are missing the point. Pikachu is naturally a rodent with yellow fur and electrical powers, not a yellow bra and miniskirt. These cosplayers just want an excuse to dress up as a sexy geek girl.

I don't get this secret at all. What exactly are you objecting here to, op? Does it bother you that the cosplayer could have lightened her skin solor with make-up, or that her hair isn't naturally black or that someone who isn't a ~goth~ dared to try and look like a character you associate with the sub-culture in question? Any way, the cosplay strikes me as neither weird nor - most of all - as an excuse to dress up as a sexy goth, most of all because it is neither particularly sexy nor like buying a piece of goth fashion is something anyone would need an excuse for?
