Can you really call it cosplay if you're adding your own touches to something? The point of cosplay is to dress up as a character. Plus, why use cosplay as an excuse to dress sexy? Just fucking dress sexy.

I'm not getting "sexy" from that picture at all. She's got a high collar, she's not showing any skin at all.

What's "sexy" about it? I mean, I think she looks cute, but she's not slutting it up or anything.

Yeah, I'm not seeing "sexy| either. I'm presuming that what is meant is that she's "too pretty".

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
Because that's boring? I dunno.

People add their own touches and variations to cosplay all the time. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

I disagree with your first point. You see personal touches added to cosplay outfits all of the time. AU versions are some of my favorites (examples: Steampunk Star Wars (http://unrealitymag.bcmediagroup.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/steam2.jpg) and Medieval Justice League (http://cdn2.fashionablygeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/04/medieval-batman-and-aquaman.jpg?22a92a)). And take Welcome to Night Vale, where there are barely any canon character descriptions, so all you HAVE are personal touches. And yet, still one of the more popular cosplay themes at the conventions I've gone to all year.

Eh, if you have to identify yourself as a certain character when you cosplay, in that you changed it up so much no one can tell who you are, then that's where I draw the line. Also, I won't touch Nightvale in this instance since I know the fandom is full of SJWs and since there are no descriptors of anyone, I don't see the point in cosplaying it since everything is fan interpretation.
