#4, meet #8.

Blatantly sexualisexed men are everywhere. They're just sexualised in a completely different way, because - and this is the toughest thing for the movements to accept - men and women are different.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
No, the issue is they're in different markets.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
ehhhhh, I don't think the frequency is anywhere near the same

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
I always hate the "men and women are different" argument because NO SHIT men and women are different. Black and white people are different too. That's not the point. The point is that we want the same opportunities. There are women who like to ogle guys onscreen and there are those who don't. There are guys who like to ogle women onscreen and there are those who don't. Yeah there might be a broad trend among men or women, but individuals vary greatly within the group.

At present, though, most movies don't even give women the opportunity to ogle.

But the "broad strokes" are what content creators aim for, because that's what brings in the eyes. So sorry if you're painting with a thinner brush.

Not "everywhere" in the way that sexualized women are, and the difference in sexualization isn't because "men and women are different" - it's because society views men and women differently.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
More like "they're sexualised in a different way because there's a depressingly large number of manchildren who shriek 'EW EW EW EW WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO DO TURN ME GAY?!!!' whenever the slightest hint of beefcake turns up".

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely this. I think it's because men have been conditioned to think everything is for them, therefore the presence of a sexualized male must mean someone somewhere thinks they're gay.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
which is hilarious, because a number of videogames' designs for male characters look like they were based on Tom of finland art.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
yep, which is why so much of male nudity needs to be reinforced as showing STRENGTH and POWER and not GAY STUFF EW

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 03:43 am (UTC)(link)
lol ... yeaaaaah, uh, well ...

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 08:06 am (UTC)(link)
lol and then you get 300

It's not about movements, though - it's about the fact that maybe some of s would like to see men serialized in different ways.

Men and women might be different - but a beautiful, scantily clad body is appealing in both sexes.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Nice generalization. Yup, guys fall with their eyes, girls fall with whatever is least sexual because women don't have libidos.

(Anonymous) 2015-01-02 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
I know, right? Women NEVER desire good-looking men! Never! We have no sex drive, we hate beauty, etc.!

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
This is so incredibly fucking stupid because a bunch of people attracted to to men are RIGHT HERE telling you that aren't seeing enough of the things they want to see while you're telling them that they are. The problem with people opposed to 'the movements' or whatever the fuck is that they refuse to accept what people say about their own thoughts and feelings in order to pretend that their assumptions are always right.

I get that you're probably trolling because this is f!s, but there's always some dumbass who posts this in all seriousness every time the issue comes up. It's always a man who isn't attracted to men saying it, and it's always in the face of (scores here, sometimes thousands on other sites like Gawker) straight/bi women and gay men telling them otherwise. In the face of every woman's erotica featuring a headless, scantily clad beefcake with perfect abs to catch their eye and stoke their desire. It's someone closing their eyes and jamming their fingers in their ears and shrieking MEN ARE VISUAL WOMEN ARE EMOTIONAL or MEN ARE TURNED ON BY WATCHING WOMEN WOMEN ARE TURNED ON BY MEN WATCH THEM or MEN WANT WOMEN TO BE YOUNG SUBMISSIVE OBJECTS WOMEN WANT MEN TO BE ACTIVE AND DOMINANT AND EXPERIENCED. In a world where Twilight is about one male virgin and another 17-year-old who runs around with his shirt off. In a world where Magic Mike outsold Striptease, Showgirls, and Wild Things. In a world where the character women can protect and save (the "woobie") is often the male character women want most.

How is that cognitive dissonance treating you? I'd offer you a teleporter back to the 50s when we were still pretending that female desire was exactly what men wanted it to be (and the long debunked studies many of these "ideas" come from), but I already used mine to scope out shirtless Channing Tatum wearing that leash again.

I fucking salute you.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 10:38 am (UTC)(link)
Fact 1 Twilight didn't have sex in it
Fact 2 The best-selling women's erotice features a tie on the cover
Fact 3 woobies are for self-inserts

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 10:58 am (UTC)(link)
*erotica

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 11:07 am (UTC)(link)
And? None of that means shit nor does it negate their argument. Also, I don't get how "fact" 3 is meant as a rebuttal.

Except not everyone likes the "scowling shirtless man." The only dude I've ever found really attractive in a video game is Ghirahim, and that's only because the emphasis is placed on his legs, butt, neck, and shoulders rather than his abs.

I also seem to prefer men who are slightly uncovered, rather than straight up shirtless. Just showing up with nothing on but underoos isn't very seductive to me, but hinting at what's underneath is.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-21 01:26 pm (UTC)(link)
No, not everyone likes that (just like not every straight man likes what's marketed to them as "sexy"). However, she's talking about what most people like, and she's also debunking the idea that men's and women's sexualities are just sooooooo different when they're really actually more similar overall.
