She's supposed to be Asian, right? I guess it's better than the quiet, no-speaking Asian women characters that are usually shown in Western movies. (Like Pitch Perfect and the Brothers Bloom. Ugh.)

UM. Bang Bang (Rinko Kikuchi, The Brothers Bloom) spoke twice ("Fuck me" and singing karaoke), and she was in NO way "quiet and subservient". She was motherfuckin' nuts and absolutely important to the plot.

Also, Lilly in Pitch Perfect turned out to be an amazing beatboxer.

in pitch perfect, they also played with the trope by having her say really inappropriate/disturbing in a teeny tiny voice (like "I set fires to feel joy" and "I ate my twin in the womb").
