Well, I feel like that's not reallllly Neil Gaiman's fault, is it

He just has bad taste in relationships, but he was not himself acting like an egotistical prick

seriously though how does Palmer still have fans

Yeah, 'cuz he totally had no choice in getting into the relationship.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
well i mean that's what i'm saying, he had bad choice in who he chooses to be in a relationship with but OTHER THAN THAT

and, hey, you know, love blinds people sometimes

(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
I dunno, he could have stayed most of the night and discussed his favourite music and out his favourite music videos on and not let his wife make it into a show all about her music? Like, it's implied, he should have done??

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
DA - Yeah. Why'd he leave? Gaiman has a ton of musical influences that appear in his work all the time. He could've talked about Lou Reed and the Velvet Underground and Bowie, so it's not like he wouldn't have anything cool to say.

Instead, that poor audience got an Amanda Palmer marathon. Wow.

I feel like this is going down a "victims of abuse are responsible for their abuse, because they chose to get into that relationship" kind of road.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Then you are projecting or reaching.

It was more me balking at the whole ensared-by-the-wicked-temptress trope, but it turns out I sort of misread the secret. I don't think anyone suggested Gaiman was being abused, so I don't know where that came from.

I think leaving very early in the program is certainly prickish, and somewhat egotistical. If you've arranged to do a public appearance that fills a certain block of time, you should honor your commitment to that time unless there's some kind of emergency that needs your attention. It's telling the host/producers that you don't care about your deals and that your time is more valuable than theirs/their viewers.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 09:10 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-23 11:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes.

And her part of this sounds just painful.

Of course, it very well might have been prearranged with the producers of the show that he could only stay for a certain length of time. If he had a previous engagement, and said "Oh, I can't do it, I have such-and-such thing to do at this time", and the producers said "Well, can you do it for this amount of time and leave early?", does it still count as him thinking his time is more valuable than everyone else's?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 08:47 pm (UTC)(link)
If that was the case, he probably should have explained that on the air, especially since some viewers were probably looking forward to exactly the same things the OP was.

Palmer's part in the whole thing sounds really, really annoying and disrespectful.

Hey, I can totally relate to that. You often don't see a person's true colors until you're out of love with them. It's emotions and hormones.

See what he says about her when they inevitably divorce.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
Wow, you're just ice cold about noodly, aren't you?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
Damn. Is it noodly that she's pissed off about?

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 02:18 am (UTC)(link)
probably, since anytime relationship advice comes up she says stuff like "you can't remain friends"

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
And noodly is mysteriously absent from all relationship discussion once the heifer shows up.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-24 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
Don't be an awful shit.

No it's okay I rock this crown

[personal profile] chardmonster 2014-11-24 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, not just that. I'm tired of seeing either my friends or friends of my sister forgive people who are awful to them. They aren't weak. They're just kind. And lying assholes take advantage of that.
