Except Mark Pellegrino was also playing a character who had been possessed by Lucifer.

I thought about that, but Nick is ultimately the form Lucifer uses most, even in Sam's hallucinations, so I went with him as the "true form". I don't think we've ever seen Lucifer outside of a body. He would just be black smoke, right?

No, he's a fallen angel, when we see him possess Nick, we see the house light up bright like when an angel takes possession. We haven't seen an angel's true form.

Ah, okay, I forgot that he's technically an angel. Thank you.

Yeah, he's a multidimensional wavelength. If anything though, vessel-wise, it would be Sam who is Lucifer's "true form." Nick was just a temporary substitute.
