More settings outside of Europe/medieval Europe, including creatures that aren't the usual elves/dwarves/trolls thing. Better female characters. Urban fantasy that doesn't involve romance with vampires/werewolves or shapeshifters in general. More genre mashups like fantasy/horror and fantasy/mystery. And yes, more POCs even though a lot of people throw tantrums about tokenism or SJWs.

Already said this up thread, but for urban fantasy without supernatural romance, check out the Greywalker series by Kat Richardson. That one also has some POC recurring characters as well who are pretty awesome, as well as good female characters (naturally because the protag's a woman).
