This was exactly what I thought at first too.

But a couple commenters mentioned it might be icarus/icarus_chained, who IIRC has no problem responding to comments with multi-paragraph-long explanations of her own fic....OP, want to help us out here?

Okay I had no idea who this person was (or even whether they're who OP's referring to), but having looked at their replies to comments I can see why everyone's irritated by it.

It's not just the prevalence of it, it's that it's all totally irrelevant.

WTF is *grins crookedly* anyway? I'm having flashbacks to all the Natalie Dormer secrets...

Even if it is the same person, that mightn't rule out them being awkward. It could be the difference between a public speaking presentation and a conversation? Having the performance skills to give a speech and answer questions on it isn't necessarily the same as having the social skills to carry a conversation without defaulting onto awkward habits. I could imagine a similar circumstance with being able to present a story and answer technical questions about it, but still not know what social/text conventions are appropriate in comments.
