Even when I had work, I never made more than 45 thousand dollars a year (this is living in LA, where the cost of living is higher than just about anywhere else in the country). I never worked less than 60 hour work weeks. And the thing about being a writer? You always take your work home with you. The thought that any of us work less than twenty hours a week is a fucking laugh.
I made less than 6000 dollars in 2007 from residuals. I get by working at a bookstore. I have two kids, no spouse. WGA insurance is all that gets us by.
So, go ahead and let hearsay dictate what you do. Just don't be surprised when the rest of us think you're a fuckwit.
