Re: 7

I'm pretty sure that's what they're leading towards too. I am really, really opposed to it... but yeah, I can't help thinking that's where it's going too.

Aw, but they both deserve someone nice, who understands them and doesn't just want to use them. They might actually get happy, for once. ;_;

Perhaps, but the writers have been absolutely terrible at writing a decent storyline with romance in it this season... I really can't bring myself to hope for any new romance because of that. Plus, I'll totally admit it-- I am a twisted Sylar/Mohinder 'shipper. I can't help but hope those two stay out of any romantic entanglements to leave the possibility open, even if there's not a snowball's chance in hell of them ever addressing their chemistry in canon.

But seriously, the first reason is the one I'd stick by. Also, I didn't like Maya this season at all, and it would really add insult to injury to make her dependent on yet another man, even if he is a "good guy." Her character has a lot of growing to do and I can't help hoping that she does that without using someone else as a crutch or becoming one herself.

Why would a relationship, or partnership, immediately mean that the female part is dependent on the male part?

I mean, letting aside this usual "the writers suck at writing romance and female characters" complaint. That's starting to bore me. I liked Mohinder/Eden, and Mohinder is possibly the male character with the sweetest chemistry with just about any female character he meets... He's just nice.

And frankly, all things considered, Mohinder really needs a close friend who understands the history with Sylar... just as much as Maya needs such a person. They are on the same level.

But wait... do you think Sylar/Mohinder could become canon, in the sense of an actual sexual or romantic relationship? Because I really don't think Mohinder would want that. Understatement of the week.
I like their relationship as it is, with Sylar seeking Mohinder's help, closeness, etc, and it really doesn't matter whether Mohinder is in a relationship. He could be married with five children and there would still be Sylar. In a way, any Mylar shipper should approve of the fact that anybody Mohinder gets close to is actually also a Sylar victim. Even his happiness has somehow, indirectly been caused by Sylar. He can't escape him. It's all sorts of well-written, the ongoing story of Mohinder and Sylar.

"Why would a relationship, or partnership, immediately mean that the female part is dependent on the male part?"

Probably because Maya, as a character, was completely dependent on the men around her all season--first her brother, then Sylar. She was never portrayed as having a will or mind of her own, just as someone who needed a guy around to take care of her. I think the original commenter was referring to the fact that if Maya and Mohinder DO wind up together, it would likely be more of the same.

It was unfortunate that Maya was in such a sucky situation for the entire season. But she knew what she wanted, and was really quite enthusiastic about the journey to New York and the prospect of dinging Chandra Suresh... she made her own decisions, such as using her power to break Alejandro out of jail. She HAD a mind on her own. I honestly saw her as the one making the decisions, not Alejandro. There were several instances when they disagreed, and in the end they went with Maya's idea.
Yeah, she depended on him, too, mostly emotionally, but is that such a bad thing on a show that focuses so much attention on families? Peter and Nathan depend on each other a damn lot, too, so what?

Sylar manipulated her, yeah, even sexually, and it sickens me to the bone that the fandom as a whole perceives this as Maya's fault. Blaming the victim, way to go.
How Sylar controlled her, that was bad, and damaging, well, duh. It wasn't exactly shown as a healthy relationship. Sylar is a manipulative bastard, but around someone normal or nice, Maya is not the weak-willed little useless thing that people make her out to be. Or pretend her to be so she can be more easily dismissed and doesn't disturb their precious slash.

Dinging = finding. I really hate my typing skillz.

Well, shit. I really have to go back and re-watch Volume Two. You're right, she did make a lot of decisions on her own. I thought at the time that Alejandro was relenting to keep her from letting loose on another city--but he wasn't rolling over, they disagreed a lot when Sylar joined them. Reading this kinda makes me question what biases I was watching their scenes through. But to be fair I was all grumpy and unforgiving about a lot of the storylines... I suspect if I went back and re-watched the second season without all the built-up bitterness I'd like all of it a lot more.

I agree with the anon person, that one statement isn't a blanket comment on ALL females in relationships--it's just how I perceived Maya to be in her relationships with the men around her. For a long time she seemed dependent on Alejandro (it seemed to me like that was going on before she discovered her power, though that certainly intensified it) and she only moved on to Sylar because he was manipulating her into distrusting her brother. You're right, a woman doesn't and shouldn't be completely dependent on a man if they are in a relationship, but Maya seems to tend to do that. At least IMO. I'd like to see her get back up on her feet on her own without a romantic angle to her relationship with Mohinder. He is due for a love interest, though, and I thought I saw the groundwork for it in the finale.

And no, I really don't think Sylar/Mohinder could become canon. I just have this really immature wish that the characters would "keep their options open." It's not logical or mature and it doesn't make any sense, but it's how I feel all the same. But in any case she IS in the tangled web between them now anyway like you said, so it's a moot point :)

Sorry, I don't want to start an argument! I know the subject is pretty touchy.

I personally dig the threesome of hatesex, anger and plague!tears that would be Maya/Mohinder/Sylar.

On the other hand, M3 or M4 would be nice, too... just with a little less shipping.

But I do agree on your assessment of the Heroes writers' ability to write romance. It was *painful* to watch much of it. Hiro/Yaeko was kinda cute, but the cuteness was nullified by how awful the Japan storyline was, period.

Heroes writers: Only good at subtext.

M4? Is that a Mohinder/Matt/Maya+Molly family unit thing?

I must admit, I don't really care for M3 but this intrigues me.
