Gaara's pretty damn well loved in the fandom from what I've seen. Also, what's wrong with Gaara being single at the end of the manga? He seems pretty happy in the epilogue.

I was about to say that Gaara has plenty of stans, and plenty of shipping stans... and then I remembered a good 75% were, like, Gaara/OCs stans.

He, Shikamaru, and Tsunade are still my favorites...

Gaara is pretty damn loved. Unless you mean on shipping terms, which is another story entirely.

I'd gree with the SasuNaru statement in part one, but after most of Shippuden he was such an ass and his redemption was pretty half-assed.

I don't think anyone actually expected it to be canon in a shonen, but out of all the bonds they definitely had the most attention lavished onto theirs. It comes off like they care about each other on a deeper level than they'd ever care about anyone else. Especially Sasuke towards Naruto judging by the last couple of chapters specifically 698.

i'm sorry to have to tell you this but there have been severe meltdowns and accusations of bigotry and homophobia when after chapter 699's intense~ sasunaru vibes they both turn around and walk off with "those useless bitches". the sasunaru tag on tumblr was full of stans who had, actually, expected at LEAST an open ending because obvs kishimoto wantd narusasu to happen he was just being cockblocked by his editors, and a few who honestly did expect a naruto/sasuke official ending, and they raged and flounced hardcore.

they weren't all very young yaoi fans, either.

most fans were sane enough to realize that nope not gonna happen in a shonen marketed toward 13 year old boys, esp when romance scenes with girls were being inserted semi-regularly, but the hardcore denial ones were pretty loud about omg homophobia/gay rights being trampled because naruto and sasuke didn't end up sucking face.

Gaara/Naruto is an A+ ship, OP, miles ahead of Naruto/Sasuke. I definitely wish more people shipped it.

I always felt what happened with Gaara is what should have happened with Sasuke. The Sasuke stuff was dragged out way too long whereas the Gaara stuff was more condensed.

Because of that we got to see more of Gaara being a better friend to Naruto than Sasuke ever was. Sasuke is probably okay with Naruto now, but that doesn't change that the majority of what we saw was Sasuke treating everyone like shit. We never knew he 'secretly' cared about him all along until the end.

He is hands-down my favorite character in the series, and GaaNaru is my favorite pairing of any fictional media, of all time (has been for years).
