I absolutely adore Bela to this day.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't dislike her exactly, I just thought she was generic. Sexy spy lady who is super capable and runs circles around the protagonists, making them look like idiots - in turn, I think, made her just seem not like a real character. She only got interesting and more human when she died. I have no idea if that's the popular opinion because I'm not in the fandom.

I'm one of the haters. I did a little cheer when she died. Conversely, I fucking loved Ruby 1.0 and was sad when Katie Cassidy left the show.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I loved Ruby 1.0 (hated Ruby 2.0).

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 06:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'm the opposite. I loved Bela and was unimpressed with Ruby. But then I've liked Lauren Cohan in everything I've seen her in and I just do not like Katie Cassidy.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Bela, and I always worried about what happened to her cat. I hope that since she knew her time was going to be up, she made arrangements for someone to adopt it.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 12:45 am (UTC)(link)
I think that many people loved her. Certainly from what I've heard.

My fav was Jo, then Bela, then Dean and Ruby 1.0 together (well on the podium xD, I shipped Dean with Jo), then WHOLE FUCKING GHOSTFACERS TEAM (seriously, lack of Maggie and Spruce in the only episode I've watched last season was sad :( ), theeeeeen Jo's mum, theeeeeen about everyone else. Hell, I liked Becky! (er, another newer episode was the wedding one and I noped out).

Then Sam.

(Castiel is off the scale as I don't like him at all)

I loved Bela!

I had this elaborate headcanon in which she picked up the knife after, like, day one of her intro-to-Hell torture session; after Dean did the same they had an off-and-on passionate hatesex thing going on. She's one of the many (MANY) female characters I wish the writers hadn't ignored and forgotten about.

I loved Bela so much, easily one of my top 5 characters.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
I hated the hell out of Bela but the way they killed her off really pissed me off. That was literally the only episode where she didn't annoy me and they killed her off at the end of it. Annoying.

I loved Bella, and I was really mad when she got killed off. Not because it was a bad episode, because it was the complete opposite, but because it meant she'd be gone. I always really hoped she would come back.

Bela still gets the hate no matter what. Deal.

I loved her character. I love love that the Winchesters are wrong about her.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Loved her. She was my second favorite female character after Ruby 1.0 and my fourth favorite character overall. Never got the hate other than she's a woman. I got my fingers crossed that both Dean and Sam end up with women in the end so that fandom can cry and scream and rage.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 04:42 am (UTC)(link)
As someone who disliked Ruby 1.0 and Bela, but who likes most all the other characters (all the ones I can think of anyway), and who doesn't really have any ships in the show, I hope that my dislike of them doesn't come down to the fact that she's a woman.

To me, my problem with Ruby 1.0 and Bela was basically... well, I guess one way to put it is that if Supernatural were a roleplaying game, Ruby 1.0 and Bela come across like the worst GMPCs of all time. A huge part of what both characters do in the story seems to be about establishing how cool, clever, knowledgeable, powerful, etc they are. It seems like every other story in the third season is basically about either Bela outwitting Sam and Dean, or Ruby saving Sam and Dean.

And to me, Supernatural at its core is basically a story about Sam and Dean. So for the show to spend a bunch of time showing how some other characters are so much better and how dumb Sam and Dean are, and almost getting angry at them for it, is just grating. It's like every third season episode with one of Ruby or Bela ends on a note of "Fuck you, Sam and Dean, you fucking idiots!" And that's just not what I want to watch in Supernatural.

But... Sometimes people are smarter than Dean and Sam. That's just a fact of life. There is always going to be something smarter than you.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 05:33 am (UTC)(link)
people die is also a fact of life, but when i want to watch something fun, i'm not really keen on shows proving it by dedicating a bunch of time to it

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
Eh, I don't really agree. There's a reason Bobby kept calling Sam and Dean idiots sometimes. And it wasn't just Ruby or Bela that outsmarted them or showed that they're being a bit thick.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
da

But it was different with Bella because they seemed to be dumbed down in order to make her look smart. And they also kept repeating the same mistakes. I mean, the first time they met her she betrayed them, almost got them killed and she shot Sam. And yet for some reason they decided to work with her again.

She was behaving like an antagonist but the show kept treating her as if she was ally. It didn't make sense.

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 08:10 am (UTC)(link)
I'm agreeing with the others that sometimes people would be smarter than Dean and Sam. However, I don't think they always showed Bela as being more competent than them and them always being idiots. I mean, just look at how they tricked her at the end with the rabbit's foot. They definitely one-upped her and caused her to lose. And then look at when she tried to kill them. They outsmarted her then as well. And there were multiple other times that they got the better of her. It's just that she also got the better of them and was more their equal. (And considering she had spent so much of her time being a thief and con artist, I would like to think that she would have to be good at it and win sometime!)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
I was so upset she was the only one they didn't bring back in one way or another (ghost or whatever)

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
I loved Bela. And I was really irked at how the fans reacted to her. There was so much hate for her character before we even saw her. That whole summer was filled with people saying that they hated her and she was unnecessary just based on her character description! And then, heaven forbid that she was actually competent and got the better of Dean and Sam on occasion. (And it isn't like they didn't also get the better of her. Or that she didn't need their help with the ghost as they knew more about how to deal with it.) I saw it as an equal relationship competence-wise, yet everyone seemed to be yelling about how she made the boys look like idiots. And how dare someone (a girl, even!) be as good as them at something so they weren't perfect. Ugh.

She and Ellen were/are my favorite characters. And I'm sad with how both of them were treated by the show and by how Bela was treated by the fandom. (At least Ellen was just largely ignored rather than bashed.)

I liked Bela. She was interesting.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-09 01:32 am (UTC)(link)
bela was only good as a once in a while character, she lost all appeal once they tried to make her more established

it doesn't help that lauren cohan is the wooooooooooooorst
