Loved her. She was my second favorite female character after Ruby 1.0 and my fourth favorite character overall. Never got the hate other than she's a woman. I got my fingers crossed that both Dean and Sam end up with women in the end so that fandom can cry and scream and rage.

As someone who disliked Ruby 1.0 and Bela, but who likes most all the other characters (all the ones I can think of anyway), and who doesn't really have any ships in the show, I hope that my dislike of them doesn't come down to the fact that she's a woman.

To me, my problem with Ruby 1.0 and Bela was basically... well, I guess one way to put it is that if Supernatural were a roleplaying game, Ruby 1.0 and Bela come across like the worst GMPCs of all time. A huge part of what both characters do in the story seems to be about establishing how cool, clever, knowledgeable, powerful, etc they are. It seems like every other story in the third season is basically about either Bela outwitting Sam and Dean, or Ruby saving Sam and Dean.

And to me, Supernatural at its core is basically a story about Sam and Dean. So for the show to spend a bunch of time showing how some other characters are so much better and how dumb Sam and Dean are, and almost getting angry at them for it, is just grating. It's like every third season episode with one of Ruby or Bela ends on a note of "Fuck you, Sam and Dean, you fucking idiots!" And that's just not what I want to watch in Supernatural.

But... Sometimes people are smarter than Dean and Sam. That's just a fact of life. There is always going to be something smarter than you.

people die is also a fact of life, but when i want to watch something fun, i'm not really keen on shows proving it by dedicating a bunch of time to it

Eh, I don't really agree. There's a reason Bobby kept calling Sam and Dean idiots sometimes. And it wasn't just Ruby or Bela that outsmarted them or showed that they're being a bit thick.

da

But it was different with Bella because they seemed to be dumbed down in order to make her look smart. And they also kept repeating the same mistakes. I mean, the first time they met her she betrayed them, almost got them killed and she shot Sam. And yet for some reason they decided to work with her again.

She was behaving like an antagonist but the show kept treating her as if she was ally. It didn't make sense.

I'm agreeing with the others that sometimes people would be smarter than Dean and Sam. However, I don't think they always showed Bela as being more competent than them and them always being idiots. I mean, just look at how they tricked her at the end with the rabbit's foot. They definitely one-upped her and caused her to lose. And then look at when she tried to kill them. They outsmarted her then as well. And there were multiple other times that they got the better of her. It's just that she also got the better of them and was more their equal. (And considering she had spent so much of her time being a thief and con artist, I would like to think that she would have to be good at it and win sometime!)
