they're at least doing something (shitty, but something) rather than just talking about it and showing how politically progressive they are

i'm so fucking tired of people talking about ferguson when they have no interest in doing anything about it

campaign to get cameras on cops

donate to charities that are helping out in the area

fucking something

It's amazing how you know that if someone is talking about something, it means that's all they're doing about it. Very sound logic, there.

now seeing as you're apparently concerned about ferguson and on top of all these campaigns and fundraisers, tell me what you've done

Donated as much as I could to various fundraisers, signed petitions, spread information: about as much as I can realistically do from across the country.

I love that you think Darren Wilson supporters donating money for him is "doing something" so amazingly productive, but as soon as someone links to the other side's actual efforts, which include numerous campaigns to raise money, it's still "No but what REAL things are you doing?"

Well, seeing as people on Tumblr aren't doing more than reblogging passive aggressive posts about how if you don't post about Ferguson then you're being the oppressor, I'm inclined to agree.

Excuse you. Some of those people voted on a poll.

Or now helping the people whose property has been damaged during the protests.

Re: Ferguson general

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 12:38 am (UTC)(link)
i was going to mention that, but there's a lot less people can do if they're not in the area

but yeah, there's definitely that and giving business to people in the effected areas, especially ferguson since this whole thing will destroy housing prices

Re: Ferguson general

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 01:16 am (UTC)(link)
But don't you know? Looting and burning down black businesses will totally change things for the black community!

Re: Ferguson general

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
And it will totally give the rest of the country a great view of the black community too!

Re: Ferguson general

(Anonymous) 2014-11-26 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not saying that the destruction is right, but I think we should all take a step back and think about why the actions of a very small minority of people reacting to the situation are defining the way "the rest of the country" views "the black community" as a whole. We don't talk about riots driven by white people that way at all-- as a reflection of all white people, or even of the small subset of white people responsible (e.g. riots after sporting events don't reflect poorly on all fans of the team). People reacting to Ferguson, in contrast, are expressing frustration, rage, and fear at the fact that the officials of our country can shoot unarmed citizens and get away with (in fact, profit to the tune of a half million dollars from) it. So I guess I think the discourse should be a little more humane, a little more forgiving, than it has been.

Tell that to the innocent business owners whose shops have been burned down because a guilty thug got his comeuppance.
