I usually choose men in games with giant weapons. I like playing women, but I also LOVE playing massive damage dealers. My 5'4 woman, no matter how badass, looks a bit silly toting a claymore or a rocket launcher. So there it's purely aesthetic practicality.

(When I'm going for speed I'll choose a woman. My female rogues and assassins have covered various fantasy and science-fiction worlds with rivers of blood. )

The issue there is, why can't you create a massive woman with a large frame and broad shoulders and legs like tree trunks to tote around the rocket launcher?

The short answer, in most games I've seen, the female body types range from "supermodel thin" to "curvy and slightly taller" while male body types range from "lean muscle" to "linebacker" to "barrel-chested strongman." And in some cases, it's even more ridiculous, because when the characters aren't even human, why do the females HAVE to conform to human standards of beauty?

Currently playing a CBBE slim female Dunmer mage(Skyrim) who dishes out the damage with destro. Badass AOE.

Same with Dragon Age, too.

What do you play where you actually have a tiny 5'4" woman? Most female avatars are as large as the men in game so they don't have smaller hitboxes, because that's a huge gameplay advantage.

One of the Blacklight devs was discussing this when asked how they worked smaller sizes into their female avatars whilst still making it fair to have smaller hitboxes and he replied they didn't - that basically no one does - all female characters are 6' amazons.
