I enjoy playing as both. In games that have LI's (so, basically BioWare games) I'll usually play as a woman first IF the love interest I'm planning to romance is straight. If the LI I'm planning to romance is bi, I'll opt for a same sex romance so I can have my slice of gay. Example: I romanced Liara in Mass Effect, but only as a woman. In Inquisition, I plan to eventually romance Josephine, but I would never do it as a man. *shrugs* Maybe that's weird.

I will admit on my end that in games where there are no romance options, I'll generally play as who I think looks coolest. That's usually a pretty woman because in most character creators I have an easier time making an attractive woman than an attractive man. (Plus, I just like playing as my own gender, since lots of games don't give you that option.) Even if eye-candy were your reason, I don't see why that's a bad thing; you can spend a lot of times on these games, you might as well be playing as a character you enjoy looking at.

As for Dragon Age 2, I only ever played male characters because I couldn't make a cute f!Hawke for anything. Also, once I decided she didn't have to be cute, I heard her voice...and hated it. So...yea, never finished the game with a female character that time, but thankfully the lady voice actors in Inquistion are just as good (or possibly even better) as the male ones, so that shouldn't be a problem.

You like what you like, I suppose? Maybe you just want something ~different~ (than your experience). This is why, given the option of playing as other fictional races, I usually pick them.

Oh look, someone else who didn't like the female Hawke voice *high five* Though part of the reason I played more Hawke guys than women is that I also hated her walking/running/idle animations.

I don't see many of us! It was just too sarcastic for me. If it wasn't that way all the time I wouldn't have minded so much. (Of course it works if you're playing a sarcastic Hawke, but I already had a sarcastic Hawke by that point and didn't want another just yet.)

I didn't care for the default Hawke(s) appearances, either. M!Shep I liked, but default F!Shep...something about her face is off-putting to me; I suppose I'm just picky.

I didn't want to be TOO nit-picky, but honestly I feel the same about the running animations for women. The swishy running animation is still in Inquisition, but I'm just gonna deal with it; I want to play as a pretty female Elf and Qunari.
