Alistair stayed behind in my playthrough. Strangely I don't feel as sad about his death as I thought I would. I guess because I feel like he took Wardening is seriously as my own Hero did, and was probably prepared to make the sacrifice the moment the Inquisitor got in touch with him. It just seemed fitting for his story to end like that. His place was always to fight until he died for others.

On the other hand I couldn't even begin to accept Garret staying behind. When I first saw him at Skyhold I just wanted to reach through the screen and give that big bear of a man a hug. :(
