Media that you count as feminist

Nothing I've followed, I'm pretty sure.

I consider feminist an activist label, so unless the author identifies as a feminist and uses whatever they made as means to share the ideology, I don't consider it feminist. Though there's definitely stuff I've read that I consider to have feminist or progressive aspects, like as a varied female cast.

Yes, but like any art form, the messages contained can be labled. What media do you feel is about a feminist message?

Do you mean like types, i.e. tv, film
Or are you asking for things like news stations and media organisations?

Anything. If it was created, displayed to others, and you count it as fundamentally pro-woman, tell me about it.

Sailor Moon.

I mostly agree, but don't you find the outfits a bit sketch?

da

The outfits are the least of Sailor Moon's problems when it comes to feminism. Especially the anime.

No whole media I can think of.

Bit's of terminator 2
Bit's of y the last man
Bit's of frozen
Bit's of adventure time

All of these have some pretty disturbing anti-women messages, tho, so I couldn't really say any of these were Feminist.

Bit's what? What object or quality belonging to Bit is feminist?

AAARRRGH.

What disturbing anti-women messages do any of those have?

Lol Frozen has disturbing anti-women messages? Oh I see...

The only thing I can think is: a woman having powers is portrayed as scary and bad. Also, she freezes her kingdom because she gets too emotional, showing that it's a bad idea to let women run things, because their emotions will eventually get the better of them.

(I'm having to reach really fucking hard, here)

huh, you put more thought into that than I did - I assumed we were going to talk about the size of Elsa's tiny wrists and enormous eyes or something lol

Is there any "wah Frozen hates women" argument that actually involves discussion of the entire film, and not the first fifteen minutes?

I'm not sure that I think media can be feminist

What makes a feminist media? A story with good female characters, or a story with a message that is very specifically about feminism and the struggles associated with it?

Does it have female characters with agency who have their own stories and character development that doesn't hinge on a romantic interest?

Then congratulations, it's feminist.

Haven't quite finished season 2 yet, but the series Vikings has impressed me. Strong female presence (loads of female characters from all walks), Lagertha in general - and the fact that having a badass like Lagertha didn't give the show permission to not have any other female characters. The women do face obstacles because of their gender and the show doesn't generally pretend otherwise, but they still are strong, even the ones that don't wield swords. Well, I should say, not all of them are strong, but that just shows the variety of women portrayed, as though they are actually just human beings. And the fact that the male characters can show respect for the female characters - well, Lagertha anyway - says a lot, too. These women are mothers, fighters, political schemers, whatever... and the show hasn't yet been gratuitously perverted in its camera shots and there's been no full on nudity. Or, I should say, even when the camera is seductive to the female characters, it is I dare say equally if not way more seductive to its often shirtless (or naked) male characters.

I don't even think the show is astonishingly good (the script is weak, the plots are meh, the protagonist isn't even pretending to be remotely likable at this point, and it is not particularly historically accurate though there seems to be some effort made to delve a little deeper than most stereotypes of Viking culture). But it's enjoyable and I've been really impressed with how it handles the female characters.

Yeah Vikings for sure. They didn't even go where I thought they were going to go with the Lagertha/princess relationship, which would have been bog standard for media trying to be dramatic.

Well, I think they're at least sort of trying to follow the saga, so...there's that.

Rat Queens. One of the most awesome comics I've read in a while.
