Bandom

Basically I don't know how it works? There's no real canon, and I guess other than RPF there's no real fanon? Is it just RPF? Liking the band? Talking about the band's history? Does it have an entirely different function from book and show fandoms altogether?

The canon is concerts (especially televised or recorded for television/DVD), promotional stuff they do, interviews they give, videos, behind the scenes stuff, etc. I would actually say that a fair few bands have more canon material than many non-franchise movie fandoms. I think it's mostly RPF and fanart. The band's history can be a big part of it, especially if there is conflicting information about them before the got big (there almost always is). Sometimes people in bandom, while liking the musicians (or some of them), don't always care for the music or think it's cheesy.
