Well...you're almost right, in your first sentence? Non-canon couples are generally more popular than canon couples (although exceptions exist) and since canonically gay/bi characters tend to be written into safe monogamous relationships immediately, there's probably less fic about them in general.

Don't know about this guy, though. Was he bi in the movie/show/whatever?

In the comic he is.

I haven't been keeping up with the show, since I found the pilot really disappointing, but I'm thinking of picking it back up.

Don't bother, it's cancelled.

It's not canceled yet but they have halted production for the moment. There's a big #SaveConstantine thing going on on Twitter atm.

I've seen about the campaign, one of my friends is a huge fan. Hellblazer is one of my favorite comics so I was cautiously optimistic but the pilot left a sour taste in my mouth.

They redid the pilot and the show has improved a great deal since then so you might give it another shot.

You should watch episode 5. It's a really solid episode.

I read all of Hellblazer once upon a time, but I haven't kept up in the last few years. Last I recall, John being bi in the comics consisted entirely of a single caption where he recalls having "girlfriends and the odd boyfriend". That was by a guest writer--I'm tempted to say Gaiman but I'd have to look it up--and of course John's best-known run was written by noted homophobe Garth Ennis, and thus had no such implications. (Ennis's first run was terrific, but his second run on the character was so awful it was embarrassing to read.)

So have I missed something, or is there just that one caption?

He made out with Shade the Changing Man at one point, and I think during Azarello's run he was shown to be in a relationship with a guy as part of a pretty big plot point.

So no, it was never that important, but it is a thing.

It has got better after the pilot. And no, it hasn't been cancelled (yet). Episode 4 was basically a straight (no pun intended) adaptation of one of the comics.
