This is what I came here to say. I mean, sure, rec away if you want... different strokes and all that, but you might want to mention the hilariously implausible sex scenes that occur in the most ridiculous places/situations.

I don't necessarily think it's terrible (particularly compared to some of the fic in that fandom) but I've read better and boy did I have to suspend my disbelief at some of those scenes. And calling it a fic about the war itself is stretching things to an extreme, if you ask me. It's basically porn that uses the war in Afghanistan as a backdrop, with a bit of the intrigue of Sherlock thrown in for dramatic effect.

Exactly my point. As well-researched as it was at points, nothing suspends disbelief more than sex happening at the most ridiculous times, repeatedly. I seriously doubt that anyone who doesn't consider sex part of the draw would consider it a good story about the war in Afghanistan.

I'm not willing to re-read 114,000 words for specific examples, but I can tell you through a simple word search that--out of 27 chapters--there is at least one sex scene in 15 of them, possibly multiple sex scenes, and they start having sex in the 2nd chapter. You'd have to read it yourself to grasp the ridiculousness of the scenes themselves and their timing, but nobody is exaggerating the sheer amount of sex that happens in what is supposed to be a life-threatening scenario.

Yeah, I actually found it unbelievably offensive in that way, particularly once you start realizing that the other characters are just cannon fodder for the OTP. Not denying it's gripping and well-written, but I came away from it with a very nasty taste in my mouth.

So pretty much like the much-reviled J2 fic set in Haiti post-earthquake, or that other one in which they were experimental subjects in a Nazi camp during WWII.
