Oh gosh, it took me until this comment to realise there was a pun in the second answer.
I thought it was more of a "I'm not telling you, just read the damn book, it's only about 200 pages" sort of thing. It's certainly funnier now that I get it.

The person asked "What's [your book] about?", and she probably meant, "What is the summary of your book?"

Gaiman's reply was "It's about 200 pages", treating the question as if it meant, "How LONG is your book?"

That's the joke. It's a silly one, which is why it's weird people in this thread see it as some meanspirited jab at the person asking.
