You might want to take chunks of your thigh and shoulder out too. You can see from the way the character is posed in trailer just how awkward it is going to be to fit the FX in around them too.

i'm picturing how this must have gone past an entire design people

and not one person said: "guys this looks really stupid"

One person did, then JJ looked at him and said "it's okay, once we add in the lens flare no one will see it". The next day, there was just a binding light coming from that person's cubical and he was never seen again.

lol

Well, then he's an heir to Lucas all right.

I bet a lot of people said that. But then the producers were like "Nerds will love it tho, they like lightsabers and that fantasy shit, so mix them together"

Or the designers were the nerds.

You say that like it's not nerds who are invested in this and getting super upset.

(Anonymous) 2014-12-03 01:41 am (UTC)(link)
I've seen a lot of people try to defend it because it's cool, so now it's basically the eternal nerd struggle between those who don't care as long as it's cool and the ones that overanalyze everything.

I agree it's a dumbass design but the amount of debate is has caused is pretty funny.

Nah, the designers were merchandising-marketing guys and saw a way to get another lightsaber design onto the shelves. Better yet, its one that will get easily broken due to the silly placement of the side lights. That means multiple sales per customer!
